So, there were some pretty blatant stabs at Disney in The Simpsons Movie. Not unfunny ones. And the Simpsons team takes fair shots at everyone, even their own evil corporate parent. But it seems slightly ironic to me; The Simpsons Movie owes a lot to Disney. All animated films do, especially full-length features. Disney invented the genre. And even as they poked fun at the Disney brand and style, they appeared to take inspiration from Disney films. (Overt satire, such as cutesy forest animals stripping Homer and Marge before their romp in the log cabin, notwithstanding, some of the "boob lady" scenes reminded me of both Pocahontas' Grandmother Willow and the "pink elephant" surrealist scenes in Dumbo. Whether they knew it or not, I believe the creators were influenced by such scenes.) Labels: just saying |
